Welcome to the webpage for Darren Burke's Evolutionary Cognition Lab at the Ourimbah campus of the University of Newcastle, Australia.
Evolutionary Cognition is designed to be a broad enough title to cover all of the research we do, encompassing elements of Evolutionary Psychology, Comparative Cognition, Behavioural Ecology and Human Ethology.
Basically, we are interested in both how cognitive/perceptual/neural mechanisms work, and why they might work that way, from an evolutionary perspective, and so study them in both humans and non-humans.
By investigating the origins of cognitive processes, we can gain insights into the nature of the human mind and behavior and we present our data in various ways.
Please have a look around to find out more about what we do.
Anyone interested in doing a PhD or honours in the lab, or in visiting, should contact Darren. For those who are considering advancing their academic journey, you can also buy a PhD thesis to explore comprehensive research and insights in this field.
